Important Information About Your Order:

· If you need your order refilled, please call us at least 72 hours in advance.

· Your insurance plan will not cover equipment or supplies while you are in the hospital, nursing home, or under hospice care. If you enter a hospital, nursing home, or hospice care, or no longer medically need the equipment or supplies provided, you must notify Health Aid Company immediately. Do not accept delivery of supplies.

· It is your decision, along with the advice and, if applicable, the consent of your physician to receive the equipment/supplies provided. Please call us if/when you and your physician decide you no longer require the use of the equipment.

Fall Prevention

1. Begin a regular exercise program.

2. Have your health care provider review your medicines.

3. Have your vision checked.

4. Make your home safer to prevent falls.

· Remove things you can trip over (like papers, books, clothes, and shoes) from stairs and places where you walk.

· Remove small throw rugs or use double-sided tape to keep the rugs from slipping.

· Keep items you use often in cabinets you can reach easily without using a step stool.

· Have grab bars installed next to your toilet and in the tub or shower.

· Use non-slip mats in the bathtub and on shower floors.

· Improve the lighting in your home. As you get older, you need brighter lights to see well. Hang light-weight curtains or shades to reduce glare.

· Have handrails and lights put in on all staircases.

· Wear shoes both inside and outside the house. Avoid going barefoot or wearing slippers.

Fire Safety

 

· Install smoke alarms outside of each sleeping area and on all levels of your home.

· Test smoke alarms at least once a month and change all smoke alarm batteries once a year.

· Consider purchasing one or more fire extinguishers to keep in your home. Learn how to use them.

· Consider installing escape ladders for upstairs rooms. Learn how to use them.

· Keep flashlights throughout your house and check batteries periodically.

· Plan and become familiar with fire escape plans and meeting places.

· If a fire occurs, make your escape, and call 911. Stay low to avoid smoke and check all doors for heat before opening. If all escape routes are blocked, keep all doors closed, keep out smoke by piling blankets near openings, and stay low. Call 911 if a phone is available or signal for help from a window.

· Never go back inside a burning building.
